Ironic that in the pic it looks like it's been dropped on the pavement, because if I was walking along the street and saw it laying on the floor I'd just step on it and continue walking without a second thought. It's not something I'd think of as having any value, aesthetic or otherwise.
After my unqualified runaway success with Banksy my intention for the last year has been to take over the mind of Shepherd Fairey and will him to do exactly the sort of dumb shit that will help kill 'Street Art' stone dead forever. Today I am very happy and growing even more confident of my psychic ability.
It does kind of look like a flyer laying in the gutter, probably a flyer for a store in Camden selling clothes to young teenage goth/punk girls who haven't yet been fucked in the arse so are still little girls inside who like pink things, Hello Kitty, and rucksacks for 7 year olds.
if Shep is making posters of Obey bootleg stickers I hope he does the 'Andre the Giant has a mullet' one I made in '99 as it looks like Flying Fortress aged 50.
do they still sell their prints cheap, like $50? if so I have no issues with this print. it's not fantastic, but for a teenage girls bedroom it's just right. if it's £200 or more then it's poo, as only adults can buy it.
I like that Americans sell prints so cheap, kinda puts things in perspective. I tried to buy some prints today that were only £30. but the robot wouldn't accept my credit card, so I saved myself some cash and another McDonalds meal won't get bought
depends what size, quantity, etc, but generally they start at £30 and go up to £180 (except for a print I made with The Don Gallery in Milan, which I think is 250 euro, run of 30, with no artist or printers proofs) I don't make runs of more than 50 (except for one I printed with Nelly Duff, which is a run of 80, but I didn't print that, and the less said about that print the better as far as I'm concerned) and usually I make runs under 25 (often just 5 to 15 prints) as I don't like to print loads of shit which won't sell ;-)
original pieces I sometimes sell for as much as possible, and sometimes really cheap. the last two years I've run a lucky dip at Xmas where one-off paintings cost 15 quid. the most expensive piece I ever sold was 3000 euros, second most expensive £1,200. and I've given lots away free, such as with my free street gallery in 2001, 50 small paintings left in the streets of north east London in summer 2007, 5 Finders Keepers shows in 2003/4, and of course all the regular free "art" painted on walls.
I've said "thank you" (just now) and I also apologise for assuming your mail was a sly attack, trying to make me embarrassed for trying to sell things. it's difficult to believe in a straight-forward question when someone doesn't reveal their identity

ReplyDeleteIt's 'street' or possibly 'pavement'

i would chew your face off for that print... true.
ReplyDeleteInstant classic, bet it looks great in the flesh.
ReplyDeleteSo i'm guessing Shepherd Fairey and his team have based this print on a bootleg obey sticker uploaded onto the website!

what have you done for me lately?
I just gave you a chance to put a little bit of (deserved) publicity out there for yourself.

I'll look out for your stuff dave as, from what I've seen on line, it looks quite good.
