Underground Overground Sheeple Are We

Walking down commercial street the other day I saw a poster with a massive d*dog and lettering saying new print out tomorrow only 199.99 !!!

Then I woke up and wondered why can't these cunts be that honest?

You see my hate isn't to do with the act of brand awareness, of selling to make a living, it's to do with dishonesty. Don't tell me your subverting advertising, when in fact all your doing is advertising 'your' product, be it a film, a book, a show, a print, a fucking loo roll holder.

Don't expect me to blindly praise a new street piece if its to these ends. I understand the process of getting up, of getting your name known but don't expect me to open my wallet instaneously.

But guess what? I do like alot of art that's being produced in the mainstream. As much as I'd like to shout about work from other sources, that I've seen, isn't doing it for me and my tv 3 second is king nueron connections.

So street art is dead, it's mainstream, consumer society has swallowed it whole and produced a puss filled boil of hypocrisy, lies, pretend cred, manipulated stories, auctions and facts. A growing sea of invested parties with money to lose, from the lowly eBay flipper to the knightbridge gallery. From US galleries suddenly loving your work, to forum administrators saying let me have all your pictures. From people sounding remarkably similar (to those selling) and buying work at vastly inflated prices, to staff suddenly inviting you to every private view.

Don't read ' it's an inside joke ' and think you're in on it.

Don't sit back and politely praise what they serve you up, don't think I'm special, keep your wits about you and ear to the ground.

  1. A lot of them don't even bother to make the effort of putting at least a token copy of the print on the street nowadays. They just skip that step and go straight to hyping the product on forums and compliant street art blogs instead.

  2. Street art will never die. Urban art is dying fast though, and thank fuck for that!
