Does much from Laz ever sell or is it all kept in the back room/upper office?? Funny just how much 'sold out/unavailable' stuff he has for sale once he knows your wallet is wide enough
the whole art sales thing is a big con anyway look at how Paul Insect sold his entire first solo show for half a million quid to Mr. Hirst. Who is a friend of Mr. Banksy. Whom Mr. Insect was the assistant of. So he probably didn't buy it, and if he did he sure as shit didn't pay 500,000 nicker for it. It's just a way to hype Insect so they can jack his prices up at future shows. Has he had any future shows?
most gallerists won't even talk to you unless they know you have money. as soon as you ask how much a painting cost they know you'll never buy it. they only like people who say "I want this" and know they don't have to worry about finding the cash
If you must waste your money on art, buy direct from the artist. They won't charge as much as a gallery (a gallery is like all other shops, they double the price of the goods they handle) And the good thing about buying direct from an artist is you get to find out more about the piece, they get to find out more about where the piece is going, and everyone feels all warm inside
if an artist tells you "no, you have to speak to my gallerist" then they are a cunt and you don't want to give your money to a cunt (or two cunts if you buy through their gallerist!)
great post flak. I couldn't agree more with buying direct from the artist. You avoid all that smoke and mirrors bullshit with galleries who are basically just parasites, quite often up to something dodgy and up their own coked up arses.
Unlike you, I wasn't lucky enough to be in LA to see these works that "we've all seen". I'm really hoping I can make it to London to see them.
ReplyDeleteme too
ReplyDeleteha ha yes darling one flies to shows worldwide, or perhaps I just got the PDFs?
ReplyDeleteLucky for me it has not sold then, otherwise I too would have only ever seen it in PDF.
