Anonymous Said - Elms Lester 'Living Slow, Dying Rich'

For those who missed it, thanks Mr Anonymous for giving me something to post

'2009 Elms Lesters round up. Erm... Went on holiday with the proceeds of mugs overpaying for Parla, Neate, Frost and WK Interact. Hello Seychelles, Hello Maldives. Didn't bother to open the gallery this year, too much money! 2010 Elms Lesters round up. Erm... More holidays to the caribbean. Found 300K stuffed in back of sofa from overcharging clients on Neate works, Delta, Dalek and Futura in 2007. Couldn't be bothered to open the gallery this year. Lovely! Have got fat with good food though! 2011 Elms Lesters round up. Still in Hawaii! Shit! I heard Phil Frost and WK Interact have left the gallery? Never mind, they were shit anyway and it was a bit of a hard job selling them for £50K apiece! Better get back to the gallery, but cant fit in through the door! Adam Neate show later this year! Roll up! Roll up! '

  1. Hasn't Parla fled the nest as well
They really need to do something with Neate I invested heavily in his prints and now I cannot sell them for a huge profit.
I am very pissed off I thought urban art was a profit making scheme.

  2. true story...phil frost left elms lester as he looked at Choe with Laz, saw that Laz had sold everything, then looked at the lester show and decided he was with the wrong people

respect to Lesters for putting on some no argument great artists, where else would have held Kaws, Delta etc?

prices and policies are up to them. if they decide to take clueless peoples moneys and ensure the artists can concentrate on their art then fine by me. are they ripping anyone off? if you got £20k to spend on someones opinion then your fair game. its the art world, unless you love the work (then its a good buy), then your buying as a predictive investment, but as we have (and will) see, most of these advisors will have got it wrong. Its your fault for listening to them.
i thought this board would have applauded this gallery! fleecing the clueless street art investors then fucking off with the profits to a beach...wouldnt we all?
why no thread on Laz? stolen space?
Elms is the only gallery in london (IMO) that deserves a 'get out of street art is dead blog jail free' card.
Art and its generations only ever have one or two artists a decade worth collecting. there are only a handful of names that future generations will talk about in terms of sales. Im afraid to say there is only one guaranteed investment and thats Banksy. good or bad, he is the only one that will be remembered to sum up this moment in time. everyone else will be forgotten by the art market, apart from the hardcord collectors

  4. The guy who runs Elms Lester is old, has been running that gallery for many, many years, and no doubt been struggling to pay the rent until he started to show street artists a few years ago. He took a risk when most other galleries wouldn't let a graffiti artist through the door. He should be applauded. He actually gives a shit about art, is not a businessman like Laz or DFace who opened a gallery to grow rich.
If he's made some money from rich people buying things then good on him. That's what rich people do - they spend money. They think nothing to going out and spunking £500 on dinner, but I don't see anyone posting on blogs about restaurants they can't afford to eat at! So you can't afford to buy a Neate from Elms Lester. Ah, poor baby! Get a better job, go suck cock in the city, sell arms to the third world, be a cunt - then you'll have the money to buy all the Neate's you want.
Don't give a guy who is passionate about art shit, a guy who took a risk and supported artists, just coz you can't afford their prices. All you do is make yourself look like a whingeing little pussy-hole who cries "IT'S NOT FAIR"

LIFE ISN'T FAIR! DIDN'T YOU GET THAT YET???

  5. OK! Maybe it was a bit rich just to target Elms Lesters. The truth is everyone is going on how suckers will get fleeced by Mr Brainwash etc, but the fleecing has already happened before our eyes during the last four years! So if rich hedge funders lost their pocket money buying Neate, Choe, Micallef, Harrington, Insect etc, then I applaud the gallerists. At 20K + they aint never seeing that money again! If you used a credit card to buy those artists and you never had the money, but just wanted to keep up with the Joneses, then suckers, we shall laugh at you all day long till you head into the bankruptcy courts!

Special shout out goes to the Black Rat Posse, who conned clueless buyers who done no homework into buying Nick Walker, Blek Le Rat and DFace for HORRENDOUS (I mean HORRENDOUS)amounts of wonga!

Spend it wisely on the beach Mr Snell, but get an assistant to watch your back! lol.

Speaking of which, a new thread should be created for the biggest crook in the Urban Scene, JAMES GOLDING! 'Hiding' for 2 years after trousering the money of Matt Small, Doze Green, Rostarr, Beejoir and many others and sticking it up his nose, he is making a comeback in a gallery in Soho later this month as part of PERTWEE, ANDERSON AND GOLDING. If you spend your money there and don't get no goods, who would you blame?

  7. Elms lesters are not a big gallery anyway, they only have ONE artist, that is Adam Neate, that they have been milking dry for the last 5 years. All the other artists put out there work all over the world with various galleries and Elms happens to be one of them.

James Golding should do a show at Elms - perfect match! Bingo!

  8. Any shows yet? I heard Stash has been asking for the past 6 years for a show and is begging for his prices to start at £20K like the other artists who have now left.

  9. P*** bent me over and gave it to me good.  It only cost me £15K.

  10. Now down to only one artist! No matter. Weekly payments are still coming in from the mugs who bought Neate and WK interact for £45K apiece and did weekly installments over 5 years whilst the value dropped down to 5K!
