Anger, death, fire, well, that's what i see and it makes me grin almost as manically as seeing a businessman get their arm trapped in the closing tube doors
Just another take on Warhol, although Warhol had impact with his burning car series! Borf's just one of many artist to use burning cars since then. Superflex and Jeremy Deller being two of the more successful. Borfs' amature painting fails to deliver with this chocolate box approach.
What really sickens me is not the chocolate art, its the statement on Paper Monster... "fueled by the suicide of a close friend 4 years ago, BORF represents the artistic expression of not only this tragedy but of many social injustices of our world today." If he on a mission to open our eyes to the worlds injustices; just get on with it; don't use a friends sad death as a way of legitimising your work whilst selling it! - smells of an X factor contestant story!
He should go back to doing his one liner jokes, reminds me of a toilet graffiti book I had years ago.
And Funky you should really start looking a bit further afield, I exspect a greater level of snobbyness from you.
the one here is not bad, the others are fucking terrible... looks like a moody college student who has realized Banksy is not all he cracked up to be. So his Banksy inspired work is going to have to change and he comes up with this shit saying please take me serious! oh yeah, thats right, that is Borf! - more work need!
oh, but he must be good because he was arrested! edgy!
I’m not sure if that Cost piece is worse! It is what it is! Black text on different bits of coloured paper! How wrong can you go, just don’t buy the boring shit. At least he hasn’t attempted to mix paint and put it on canvas at evening class then expose it to the world.
Street Art is really doing my head in at all levels, the hypocrisy of it all, the in-fighting, the elitism and corruption surpass that of the fine art and contemporary art world… At least there, all the bitching and dealing is done behind closed doors and everybody knows that everyone from the artist up is primarily money driven, pretentious and everyone just gets on with screwing everyone else.
Even on this blog, there’s still a lot of shit, non-educated sucking up, such as Blu being held in such high esteem. I wouldn’t mind so much as he seems to have some talent but he’s a well-to-do kid being flown around the world by one of his land owners, property developers or businessmen who backs him as a tax write off; while making out that he’s teaching us about the true human condition and other really important world issues by painting B&W “baby men head” illustrations that all start to look the same and the likes of which has been done by many other illustrators in the Guardian Guide. But Blu does them big; well whoopee do! I think I would prefer to look at Damian Hurst or a shiny Jeff Koons safe in the knowledge that these two greedy bastards, who are also being propped up by the art establishment, aren’t trying to tell us they’re not greedy self-serving artists who want to shove a message in a clumsy and very literal street art manner down our throats whilst being given a fat hand-out by the system they supposedly detest… This cannot be said about the majority of street artists that preach to the masses and treat us all as idiots. The more elite these artists become, hanging on the side of the Tate, the bigger their hypocrisy becomes, with their anti-establishment, free speech messages they portray! The whole thing from the bottom to the top is a joke!!!!
This blog does go some way in highlighting the problem… But its too focused on silly little things like a print release here and there and what others are talking about on that little forum over there or that other blog! There’s no balance here… With a bit more reading and studying art history (not just posting You Tube videos covering stuff you learned in A-level art) this place could have a more well rounded take on what’s happening in the world of street art… Anyhow whose skull fucked whose mum today? Anyone up for my mum, she’s old and got a manky mouth!
I watched John Carpenters "They Live" last night, and it struck me as saying a lot about street art (apart from the obvious Shepard Fairey references)
All about greedy people fucking each other over, letting evil rule in exchange for some extra cash, giving in to have it easy. It spoke to me of gallerists and artists with pr teams, of "flippers", even of the boring in-fighting here, people insulting complete strangers (the irony being that, by sinking to this "I fucked your mum" level, they are as bad as the people they hate)
Bending over, giving in. Street art really is dead but the vultures won't stop circling until every last penny has been squeezed out of it's carcass
Anyway, got to go mix a bucket of paste so I can put up some posters for a FREE party we're organising, where there will be NOTHING FOR SALE except beer! No, scratch that, I'm going to hold a few posters back and try to sell them - I need to raise 165 euros to pay the printer and the baby sitter for Saturday... They'll be on my blog if you're interested ;-)
HERE'S MY OBEDIENCE - GIVE ME MY GOLD TELEPORTING ROLEX NOW!!!
and it sold out in an instant.

So that anti-consumerist diatribe was really just an advert for prints for sale on your blog?
ReplyDeleteNice bit of stealth marketing there Dave! Vandalog must be looking on in awe!
I like burning things I do.
ReplyDeleteStill, Harveyns bought one, so everything in the world must be alright, right?
