Banksy sponsors free entry to MOCA

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/culturemonster/2011/06/banksy-sponsors-free-admission-to-moca-on-mondays.html

So a show about street art, a type of art supposedly meant for anyone wasn't free? (And that's forgetting they buffed work they didn't agree with).

Could this show encapsulate how fucking wrong this has all become anymore if it tried?

Why be part of this show?

  1. So here we have the Banksy PR team's latest gimmick to keep his name in the papers. Got to ensure the brand name doesn't fall out of the publicity spotlight for too long, whatever it takes.

If he was really sincere about giving money to good causes then he'd just do it quietly. Not as a way of buying column inches. It's interesting how a bit of tabloid fame has become like a drug to him, and pretty sad to see just how venal he's willing to get to hang on to it.

The whole thing has got the air of a load of Z-list former reality TV 'stars' who nobody remembers the names of, or even cares about anymore hanging around outside west end nightclubs with their tits spilling out, desperately hoping to get noticed by some paparazzi.

  2. A museum charging an entrance fee! How in the world could they do such a thing?!?!

Get a clue. It's a museum. If you want to view street art for free, go view it in the streets. If you want free entrance for all, just ask your mother to open her legs ...

  4. Yeah. It is disgusting. Stopping people from paying. I mean, what's the world coming to!? I don't mean to sound cynical but this just seems like a PR exercise to me, I mean, he can't really be a nice bloke who wants to do something, you know, 'nice'. It must must be for self serving aims. What a twat.

  5. I doubt very much that Banksy is covering the cost of peoples entry fee. It's more likely that the organisers of the show needed some extras publicity once the the initail wave had died down so they asked if they could use Banksy's name to generate media and public intrest.

Banksy's ends up looking like a good guy and the show gets the publicity it wants. And it didn't cost Banksy a penny or cent.

  6. someone who works for Banksy told me that if he (Banksy) hasn't been in the papers at least once a month for a legitimate reason then they have to pull some kind of pr stunt

at least, that's what he told me three years ago. maybe business practise at the Banksy company has changed since then

I hope I haven't ruined anyone's dreams by revealing the shocking inner workings of the street art scene. If I have I apologise most sincerely, and will send you two free tickets to the MOCA
