Feel ingratiated we are lucky to have him and his pieces are so relevant, pass me the sleeping pills.
I fucking hate the pseudo intellectual photo realistic cartoon style, his talent could be used to really say something, but now it just feels like a bourgeois circle jerk for the well to do, totally irrelevant to the streets, totally irrelevant to the people.

So this stuff mixes sexually provocative imagery with well known cartoon
ReplyDeletecharacters and is placed at ground level, right where kiddies can see it.
Hmmm...feels a bit like the type of art that a paedo would make.
Vandalog
has been wanking hard over this. From the way he walks around Shoreditch
selectively taking pictures of just this one artist, as if nothing else exists
there, anyone would think he's getting paid with gifts to promote it or
something. Or maybe he's been groomed!
not to mention this used douche nozzle selling his soul and doing the art for the cover of the chris brown album.
ReplyDeleteHe was also hijacking billboards and pioneering culture jamming as long ago as the 80's. I guess at best most on here were still trying to learn how to body pop and in thrall to buffalo gals..round the outside round the outside..lol
ReplyDeleteTotally irrelevant to the streets is about right. That's why Vandalog loves it so much. He knows nothing of the street. When he does very rarely venture there it's like a 19th century colonial administrator going on a safari expedition to gawp at the exotic natives.
ReplyDeleteStrange how most street art bloggers seem to spend most of their time in galleries.
I like the culture jamming stuff he does, it usually on the mark and worth checking out.
ReplyDeleteTalking about the Chris Brown artwork, it is obviously competent but it does leave you with the feeling he has crossed the line labelled good taste.
It is a shame that artists have to turn tricks to get the wider exposure they need to earn their money. e.g. - MBW/Madonna - Eine/White House - Simmons/Royalty - Ron English/Chris Brown but it is a clear sign that "street art" is part of the mainstream now and always will be.
Part of it is mainstream, part of it underground. The mainstream part seams to be the weak shit though.
ReplyDeleteThree of those people you mentioned I wouldn't even call artists. 2 of them are devoid of any talent except very basic photoshop skills and a knack for self promotion, and the other is a bad signwriter.
I find it funny that a douche-bag wannabe art critic like yourself thinks it Ironic that Ron English is selling 20K+ in England. Like you fucking guys have the line on street art. Give me a break. You popularized it due to your passive aggressive attitude as a country. In the context of 2003, it made sense that street art came from England. BUT, we've been doing it for decades longer than you punters and a hell of a lot better... Go Fuck Yourselves, London.
ReplyDeleteOur "passive aggressive" attitude as a country? You mean as opposed to your actively aggressive attitude as a country?
ReplyDeleteTypical nationalistic chest-thumping from a septic wanka trying to compensate for their inferiority complex.
oh that hurt my delicate English sensibilities FY USA. It stung like Chris Brown's bling covered fist as it lovingly corrected Rhianna's uppity mouth.
ReplyDeleteDo you think the sale of one of those bloody diamonds paid paid for him to commission Ron English to do his tacky cliched album cover?
douche-bag wannabe art critic here, history means fuck all if you've lost your edge. I repect English's skill, i respect that he's been around a long time. I DO NOT however respect, a few paste ups to sell paintings at vastly over inflated prices. It has no meaning, no relevance, no fucking inspiration.
ReplyDeleteMay I just remind our American idiot that England contains a little more than just London, and no, I don't know the Queen.
