Obey in Copenhagen pt2

Proof if proof was needed Shep loves the sound of his own virtuous voice - shoot me now

  1. Link isn't working Funky. I'm not surprised he got beaten up though, he's had it coming for a long time with the way that he steals the artwork of protest movements and blunders into political situations without really knowing what's going on, just to try to raise his profile.

  2. wow! I thought I liked the sound of my own voice, but that block of text is heavy!

maybe the locals objected to Shep painting 7(!) murals in their city! the local artists only seem to have got a look in after Mr. Fairey took a fist in the face.

Shep talks about how his mural is one of peace, but it uses the aggressive propaganda colours of black and red. He also claims that it isn't an advert for his solo show in town as it doesn't say "obey" on it. er... but it looks like every other piece of art you've ever made mate, so that is a weak argument.

A dove in a target? I fail to see the target. If you want to make a statement make a statement, don't disguise your supposed ideals with pretty-ness, or people just won't get it (and will no doubt see it as an ADVERT FOR YOUR PRODUCT!)

No doubt the local press helped to generate this bad feeling by saying he was paid to make the mural by the city government. But Shep does say they paid for materials, and he had to get the design signed off before work began, so it's hardly a radical action in support of the people as he seems to think it is. And maybe it's worth to mention that he didn't fly himself out to Copenhagen to defend the Youth House when the kids there were evicted by the police, but was making murals as he happened to be in town for a commercial exhibition of his work!

I'm sure Shep still has some of the punk values he grew up with, but unfortunately he comes across the same way the American government does. He paints a mural of peace which ISN'T an advert for his show BUT draws massive attention to the fact he's in town to sell his wares, just as the American government drops bombs on the children it claims to be defending during wars in foreign countries. You can't claim something as the truth unless you are 100%. As soon as there are grey areas or contradictions people are gonna start to smell something is rotten, and then you should just shut up with your "it's for the people" schtick.

This, however, is no excuse for violence. All that shows is the people responsible have a lack of intelligence, and violent action rarely puts you in the right. Maybe they felt like it was their only defence against the imperial might of consumerist America? Who knows.

The one thing that is for sure though - Shep got a shit load of free publicity from this, so ultimately he's the winner. Publicity = sales, and he sure as shit won't be loosing sleep over one of his hundreds of murals getting a bit of paint splashed on it!
If he does, he can afford to buy sleeping pills ;-)

Why hasn't one of the tv stations commisioned a street art soap opera yet? It would be HUGE!!!

  3. Glad to see that the fightback against this kind of fake street art has begun. Let's force the shit out of our communities and leave the cunts who do it in no doubt that they're not wanted.

  4. awwww poor little martyr with his huge block of blather and victim shots.

Hope this becomes a trend where these pricks flown in to cities they know nothing about to plaster up huge ads for a show get a slap for their efforts.
