Charming Baker 'Everything Must Go'

Isn't ironic that a show entitled with a sales platitude, actually witnesses Baker's most expensive work to date?

I must admit to having a soft spot for Charming in the past, his work is always quirky and at least challenging if not always appealing. Compared to alot of the shite that plops to the surface here it was good.

But here we are, the loins of the rich and influential have been suitably massaged and we're left with 3.9k (the piece below was not 3.9k but just summed up my feelings well) for a print in a fancy box frame. Do me a favour. Actually fleece the rich for all they're worth. The more expensive Baker's work gets the less I like it. It's no longer quirky just annoying and preppy.

That's inverse snobbery for you

  1. I thought you'd written 'fucker' on there with photoshop at first Funky, but then I realised it was part of the work. Christ, that's poor. It's the kind of 'shock value' posturing you'd expect from a 17 year old art student. I pity the mug who spends 4 grand on this, only to be insulted every time they look at it. haha.

  2. Saw Charming in LES  exhibit... I liked the work at that show, it was nice seeing someone take the screening process in a fresh direction.

  5. If this was a sell out show then I'm actually Banksy in disguise. This show is about lies (aka hype). You'll find half of the show stored somewhere or on a bonfire after it's over.

  6. Nothing wrong with hype.  Hype is a form of marketing and marketing contributes to the success of any business.  Whether based on the merits of the artist or hype, there is no doubt that the show was a success.  How do I know? Well I am certain of many things, especially of the fact you are a naive, spiteful cunt.

  7. I'm certain that you're his gallerist. So fuck off you mug cunt. Go spread your lies elsewhere.

  8. Guest PM, are you into phone hacking too. I'm sure the News of the World thought it was standard business practice. Oh well, you'll have all those Charming B's left to cheer you up.

  9. yes, hype can be all the things you say it is but what CB is doing is just lying and trying to deceive people. nick walker anyone? besides, CB forgets to mention Hirst buys shitloads of student work too so no big deal
CB early work was great, but now it looks banged out

  10. Baker has gate crashed the street art party to sell his shallow work. Charming Baker you aint a street artist buddy. McGee, Banksy, Blek piss on your paintings.

    ReplyDelete
  11. well your right about McGee but Banksy's could be done by anyone and often are in the case of the ones that are actually painted rather than badly stencilled and Blek's are the same except minus the vapid political "jokes".

  12. Dear Street Art Is Dead.

Come on, you can do better than this. If
you're going to slag an artist off, at least get your facts right. Because if
you don't get your facts right then your blog becomes just another half-cocked,
badly researched, amateur-hour rant. And, God knows, there are enough of those
on this site already. Rather than an erudite and entertaining portal-master,
poking a mocking finger at the foibles of street art, you end up looking like
a  bedroom comedian in search of a
    cheap punchline.

  13. Shit! Looks like Charming Fakers management team are out in force trying to diss any blog that doesn't fall at their artist's feet.
It's a FACT that he has no credibility in this scene nor in the artworld. Faker don't care, now that he's rolling in the Benjamins.

  14. I hear Charming Baker's little bearded dwarf manager is gonna get a serious kicking. Wouldn't want to be in his shoes...

  15. Having read through this forum, he clearly isn't winning any popularity contests.  Agreed, his work doesn't really fall into the street art category but I still think it's cool - it is what it is.  Is the big objection that his success is based on a marketing campaign as opposed to his talent or are people actually challenging his ability? Just curious to get everyone's views.

  16. I like charming baker, because he's .... well.... charming!
As for you losers.... You can suck a fat one!

  17. Here's a clue to the source of all the hatred: "The more expensive Baker's work gets,
the less I like it. " That's a pretty good reason reason to hate an
artist. Let's give that tosspot Picasso a kicking as well (if the baldy
cunt wasn't already dead) after all he's not a street artist either. And that Peter Doig? What an over-priced boat-painting wanker he's turned out to be.I hear somebody is going belt
seven kinds of crap out of him with a sand iron. And
don't get me started on that Adam Neate. Eh? Eh? He made a skipload
of money so he's a right mug cunt in my books. Yes, mate, burn his mad head
with a bucket of napalm. And what about fucking Jose fucking Parla? That man deserves a kicking too. The more expensive his
work becomes the less I can afford it so it must be utter fucking shit (except for his water colours which are cheap so they are ok).  And that Micallef? He's
alright, actually. I quite like him. One minute he's a hundred grand then next
he's thirty.  The cheaper his work becomes the more I like it.
