ROA in LA

It's almost like we're flying round and round on a continually skipping 12" remix, I'm sure I've seen this before? Even if I haven't I know I have.

  1. Yes indeed Roa's got stuck in a well worn groove now, sometimes also known as a rut.

Is that meant to be a bear in reference to the California flag?

It looks like a cheap Chinese plush toy that's been floating in the Pacific for 2 years.

Change the record please Roa or at least flip it over to the B side.

  2. he looks quite happy to be dead

I might try and organise a rabid mob of children to roam the cities of the earth with crayons, colouring in all the black and white street art pieces

  3. Looks like the beast from the never ending story.

Pretty apt with neverending repetitive imagery

  4. This is part of a "zoo" that Roa is doing for the LA Freewalls Project... It consists of 2 full city blocks that will be developed over the next year or so... Look for more animals that will eventually grow old, die, and decay as the project continues... Currently the block has a hibernating (previously thought to be extinct) California Brown Bear, a decaying Sea-Lion dripping with Oil and a Warbling Vireo...

This photo just shows the bear as it's in progress.

Maybe you'll think more of the work in the future... We're glad you took the time to notice... How about next time you wait for the proper context instead of judging from an unfinished cell-phone pic?

  5. Erm I'll judge all I want as I'm well aware of most of Roa's work and know full well how this will turn out. Just like all the rest of his dead critters he endlessly churns out, city to city with minor tweaks to keep gullible and easily pleased fools like yourself happy.

And it doesn't need to be finished (you can see the outline in place and all he's going to do is add some black details) to see the proportions of the animal are laughably badly done. What's going on with the neck and the tiny legs? Did it mate with a labrador?

Maybe you should be a bit more demanding of your artists and challenge them to do something new? I know you're happy Roa is in town and has some current currency in the street art blogoshpere to rake in some quick cash for your gallery but give it a couple of years and even the most ardent fans of badly rendered animal corpses on a large scale will fade away with their cash as they'll be throwing it at the next flavour of the month up and coming artist.

    Two words: Staying power...

  7. depressing... tell me about it. Nearly as depressing as La Hoda or one of his many split personalities interns spouting off on here about how simply wonderful it all is if only we'd open our eyes and give this work more than a passing glance.

Makes sense as it's easier for Dan to go through peoples pockets whilst they're distracted by some childlike memory rotting before them.
