The 'Under Contruction' this show refers to, is a machine Tessa is currently building that will produce these pictures with the paint splatters for him, rumour has it, it's called an 'inkjet printer'.

He's an 'Urban Artist' which appears to be a genre which includes anyone who uses stencils, photoshops 'funny' images of a fucking monkey holding a fucking banana as a gun, or apparently makes charcoal drawings of what looks like a geezar with a fucking hernia. Urban art can't be dead, it never had a pulse.
ReplyDeleteAlso, street art aint dead, youre just looking in the wrong places. When was the last time you all went out looking to see what actual graffers got up to?? Go for a walk down the train lines, or round the back alleys, street art is thriving in its pure form. Obviously if you get your street art knowledge from places like .info you will think its dead, that place would suck the life out of anything that cant be bought by morons and then sold to morons.
I see the train lines every day on my way to work, not much there really except some tags and throwups in the same old style that I've been seeing for the last 20 years or so. The names might change, but that's about the only thing that has. As for the back alleys, same thing really except with a few tramps laying about stinking of piss.

the paint roller, with paint only along one edge, as if just allowed to lightly kiss the surface of the paint, while never dirtying itself with the act of "getting up"
the way the can of paint in the left hand not only fails to have any of the weight of such a can, but appears to float, as if the colour it holds is blessed with the same magical lightness as the artists humour
and who can miss the dead tones of grey, used by all stencil artists, which miracoulously fail to capture the dynamism of black and white photography or the drama of black and white film, and instead add a stunning contrast to the grey of the urban environment
how can you say street art is dead when it is oh so very alive in something as simple as the advertising for this art show?
