Proportional Wedding Riot

I'm sure if I watch enough wedding coverage I can vote for big Will  to marry Nazi Harry monger. Giving birth to a big chinned media starlet, who in later life due to weight of said chin will smack his head into the steering column of his Range Rover, crashing and cause the whole nation to have a nervous breakdown. During which Cameron tefal head will outlaw voting for anyone other than true blue smarmy cunt party and we can all rest easy until the next media hit to make us happy.

Or you know something else equally fantastic will happen.

And on that bombshell I've been truly inspired by the art presenting itself on the Internet and my inbox recently, from a total inability to come up with a new idea to a truly uninspired pun to plain fucking cunting shit of the lowest form. All concerned have not only shown me that there's really such a thing as artless art but proved a point, sometimes nothing really is the best fucking option. Cunt after cunt trying to make a few pennies from this day, by trying to be a little bit anti establishment in the most un fucking anti way, counter culture, counter shop culture, pathetic witless guile for the urban wank monkeys who drone on and on and on.

Anonymous Says 'Free Revok' ?

FREE REVOK!

FREE REVOK?

FUCK REVOK!

ARGH!!!

Graffitti makes me shit blood with anger at the pussy contradictions! everyone who says FREE REVOK deserves a brick to the skull
why?
OK, so the punishment lengths is ridiculous and should be changed….10000%…aint gonna lie, its a ridiculous mockery of a sentence, done to make an example of him…but freed? HELLZ NO! why?

1. Graf is illegal. it is why it is the best art form.
illegality gives graf writers the cred and edge that they constantly wallow in. They thrive on fucking the man and breaking the law…so please… don't act surprised when you get caught. When you convey a hard outlaw image, that the graf scene and its practitioners do give, it gets blown to pieces when everyone whines about sentences when they get caught.Whining is the samelevel of BS as snitching.
We all know how hardcore america is on its legal attitude to graf. you know the risks, you roll the dice, thats part of the game. he got caught, and nows he's whining. if you don't like the time, don't do the crime.
If the law is too much take up snakeboarding or rollarblading for aids, but graf is hard and unforgiving…don't whine because you now got caught.

2. graf writers hate on street art , with constant cries selling out and the focus often lands on the medium of selling screenprints.
what happens when graf artists need to raise cash?…screenprints.
please! why not donate original artwork? the focus on such internet bile, they suddenly jump on board...
from now on all graf artists should fucking shut up about selling screenprints. i don't care what cause its for, they cant diss them if they make them at anypoint.

3. revoke is a dick. too many tumblr followers hearing about his arrest in under 140 characters don't have the brains to read fully about him. He jumped bail to a previous arrest, that is why he has been arrested and jailed - because he didn't pay bail and is a flight risk (australia…). what an idiot! YOU JUMPED BAIL. you got caught. D-E-A-L W-I-T-H I_T. you are an example case, but you shouldn't have put yourself there in the first place…you should have straightened this out long ago

REVOK, the FREE REVOK campaign shows what hypocrites nancy boy graf artists are. Proud to be edgy but the moment they get caught they whine like bitches. man up, you did the crimes, you jumped bail like an idiot. shut up.
hell even invader got arrested and isn't milking it for publicity

worry about ai weiwei - a true anarchist the like of which graf people will never attain to.

FREE REVOK? NO!
DONT BE SO HARD ON REVOK!
FREE AI WEIWEI!

PS how more middle class - or even upper class, can graf get if people are doing kate and wills graf…so shameful...

New Banksy W1

Looks legit and looks to be directed at the forthcoming AV vote in the UK on the 5th of May (replace graf with voting...),  although that's a little obscure for many - it's a message unfortunately too true. Thumbs up from Funk Towers for once.

Is it April Fools Day?

'Some say it could be a Banksy! wow...'

sprayed near some police heavy handedness, some squatters, a Tescos Metro and whole heap of Daily Mail readers worrying their world is coming to an end

fuck me, what a debacle

Space Invader, In, Up and Sent Down

Space Invader's showing at MOCA and you'd guess that as this is a street art museum show, none of the participants would actually be so stupid as to do some 'unsanctioned' work. Not only has Space invader got up, he's possibly got nicked:

Nice to see one artist at least take it to the streets, nice one

Blu & Erica il Cane ‘Skating Team’

Blu and Erica il Cane doing what they do best, part insanity, part witty back biting at society, all great work.

from here

Shooting @earth Peter Kennard and War Boutique at Black Rat Projects

A 3 day show from the 5th to the 7th of May at Black Rat Projects, with now obligatory print release, this time by War Boutique, an exhibition of some of their work and Peter Kennard's new book @Earth.

Peter has been around longer than he cares to remember and he's one of the few voices left still making statements about the world we live in (connected somehow to Street Art), it's just unfortunate so few choose to listen. Over the years he's done work that should by right sit above that of a certain someone else, but let's leave that for another day.

New Priest Piece in San Francisco

If only Priest threw up a half decent stencil, or just just did the words alone this would work better, the graf girl just seems redundant.

Apart from that gripe it's good to see a little sniping at the fucking MOCA event, it deserves some of that at the very least. MORE OF THIS PLEASE to remind me there's a voice that's not simply there to sell me something - you motherfucking money grabbing cunts.

feel better now? no me neither.

Saner 'Free Souls' Print Release at Pictures on Walls

Back from their excursion to LA, Pow bring us another little release. Saner a Mexican artist who's street work although lost in meaning to most, feels interesting, dark and filled with stories from the past, in fact, alot more so than someone like Roa who he did a decent street piece with a while back. So to the print release 'Free Souls'

Aztec and Greek mythology overtones, of dead souls being taken on their last boat trip, of, of, okay so it's not the greatest representation of his work. And here's the crux of this, who picks the images that become prints? Saner has done alot of street work, he's done pieces that although draw from his heritage, can have a broader appeal, just look at the pieces on the Pow homepage

And yet we're left with this rather flacid print, flopping around unloved, like in fact 95% of prints this genre has spawned. So what's another one? Quickly to be forgotten. Not giving the time to an artist who may have something interesting to show us? Or maybe prints just really don't do the work justice (and are just in fact....)?

New Obey

Mr Shepwash has a collab print coming with Martha Cooper and Cope. Looks to be a screen print of a photo, best make it a print to make it sufficiently arty? Another in a series of monotonous releases that slowly morphs into every other damn thing he's ever done, only slightly alleviated by others involvement. It will sell out and that's all that counts.

'Art on the Streets' A View From the Right

http://www.city-journal.org/2011/21_2_vandalism.html

Interesting to see an article, that's not only on one level showing who the main target for graf and street art should be. But also underlining the HUGE fucking money grabbing conceit and hypocrisy for many of those involved in this show.

“They’re being silent because they don’t want to jeopardize the opportunity to be in the exhibit,”

New Kaws Release

And from the looks of the image, bob is waiting for his Kaws fans to release right into his mouth

10 years down the line as many Kaws fans get their first girlfriend, they'll explain how this piece was there first brush with their own sexuality.

One thing the rest of the world should be thankful for, is this explosion of shit was confined to the US.

Sickboy and Paul Insect at onethirty3

Here's the next one day show/installation at onethirty3 in Newcastle, featuring the below image in a few guises:

and I'd guess connected to this rooftop work:

With that exciting news break we can all continue with our day as if nothing happened. Print release check, street work check, lack of meaning, impact and worth check.

Harland Miller 'Hype, what's in it for me?'

A little known artist to the urban art arena, who came up with a nice simple straight forward idea, rework book covers with little cynical messages, just humorous enough so the owner can feel like 'they're in on it', know what I mean? Wink wink. I like art me and have a brain, the ladiessss love it, i tell you.

Then suddenly little comments of how you could be missing out and I've got this print I'm selling, a little push here, a little prod there, the prices rise, the images, the comments get tired, everything is on fast forward.

Vhils at BLDG

proof if proof was needed, that his outdoor work rarely if ever transfers well to editioned pieces

'urban contemporary art phenom'  ! oh yeah

'Taggers attacking outdoor areas near MOCA'

Now children remember if you want to make a statement, you have to buy a canvas and make that statement in the 'proper' way so left leaning upper classes will applaud you, hand you money and feel good about themselves. Fuck yous to the authority and the systems that govern are of course totally wrong and have nothing to do with righteous street art.

Banksy at MOCA - Update

My propeller won't spinnnnn and I can't get it started...well don't go out with a skinny lad then

Sorry where was I? Yes, there's some sort of big rich man's look at street art far far far away in distant lands where the working class live in fear of foreclosure and the rich well they buy Banksys. And what a strange view of street art that show has, but i'll leave an overall look for the royalty of street art blogs to wow us with language and pictures only the young with no pain and hardship or propeller problems can possibly do.

What to make of Banksy's 'section' ? What indeed. A jumble sale of images, a mixture of pieces, seemingly thrown together with little thought. For someone who's made a career of carefully crafting a 'look' , a 'personna', a 'theme', this just all seems, well a mess. For the UK's media darling to do this seems strange, his section does little but look stunted.

'Nooooo' the apologists cry! 'Surely you can see the genius in the reworked street pieces!'.

'The mess, is quite simply done on purpose, to make it look like it's not "right" in a gallery space.'

Above: It's one of those 'reworked' pieces, except this is 'reworked' from a HMV display piece, done for the Oxford St store. Fuck the thought of that alone makes me retch. It's hard to take a piece seriously when that's its link out.

Above: Another reworked piece and this reminds me of the recent originals sold, that work so much better on the street than in your LA home and this piece loses any sort of meaning in this setting. But hey, lets be nothing if not vacuous.

Above: One of the few pieces that actually feels like it belongs in this show and setting, a stencil and the artwork, the two sides of Banksy's work. Fuck I get it. But maybe I just like it because it reminds me of a simpler time (Super Tenants time).

Above: A look at the mess. Banksy's missus needs a good tidy up. Compare this clusterfuck with the Banksy v Bristol show. I know, I know two hugely different beasts, but there an area for installations, an area for canvases, pieces thrown in amongst other artists, sly hidden pieces, big fuck off welcoming statutes and then this. A corner of a warehouse (or whatever it is).

Below: Os Gemeos 'area' although garish, it looks like they've understood the space they're working with and created an area screaming out about their work in a coherent style.

Below: Everyone's stood in Mode2's section looking at Banksy's work, whilst his section has a lovely big fuck off piece - you're not going to wonder about his work for fucks sake.

And there it is, I'm off to bed with a copy of Razzle and remember if a show likes to buff work (Blu) how can it be a show about street art however many artists are involved?

Update - laugh please, or not, you know it's fine but I am rather witty aren't I? Banksy astounds with some paper left in his corner.

Rene Gagnon's Latest Attempt at Selling a print

Rene Gagnon tries really really really hard and produces this

and the back reads
'From Rene'

You know I want to like Rene's work, he's been around a while, he's changed style, but somehow he's never developed and now this. His latest works seem almost entirely around plagiarising plagiarists, in the same banal way the originals were created. How does this work? It fucking doesn't that's how.

Anonymous Says 'Someone Stole one of Pobel's Walls!'

Fuck! I'm almost surprised it's taken this long for someone to nick a piece of this project from last year.

Did I miss the urban art bubble? Yes you did Elbow Toe

Sorry Elbow Toe or whatever your serious name is, but I'm afraid it's all a bit late for releasing 250 layer screen prints, of almost 50's inspired imagery, with groovy subtexts and hoping the local hipster has the time to pick up on what you're saying.

The Art of Negative Reinforcement or what's commonly known as the 'Jago/Vermin' Effect

I look around the toilet pan sometimes and wonder 'is that shit?' , seriously 'how did I digest that?', I flush twice, wash my hands and then wonder through the hallowed halls of Funk Towers, thinking 'times are tough but still that kwik save mince was a bad idea!'

And so to the hype machine, when the same names pop up again and again telling you of a wondrous artist and the same names pop up repeating 'how sick their shit is', 'it's like got colours and it's bright, it's awesome!' and how they've a commission on the way and everyone should buy one

please

anyone?

All those positive platitudes, all those same plea's, all I start to hear is 'shittttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt bullshittttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt'. The artist may even be good, but I'm fucked if I even care anymore.

Some may wonder, 'is this real?', 'who has bought what?' , 'do they simply need validation for their poor taste?', ' this has to be worth something someday doesn't it?' , 'hang on, I'm sure a month ago they said they were friends with the gallery/artist?'

Don't take everyone for morons, don't fucking tell us it's wonderful when you'll sell it in 6 months to fund your next great find, don't fucking ask us to stroke your ego, don't fucking repeat yourselves over and over again, fucking bring more to the fucking table than kwik save mince.

The Sadness of King Funky a New Blu Print

Carrier pigeon brings news to Funk Towers of the imminent print release of this intricate and sizable Blu in Rennes , whilst I want to see Blu prosper, seeing such an impressive street piece reduced to a print does make me sad. Whatever magical process of layers and colours and special dark arts us normal folk should gasp in awe at, a print simply doesn't equal this work.

On another note I wonder how many colourways of the border, or the heart, or the eyes, or the signature shall present themselves?

New Priest Work

Street art 101, think of a topical headline that's been in the news alot recently, think of a witty pun, then come up with an image that can easily be made into a stencil, make sure the image portrays the pun clearly to avoid confusion.

little girl has a massive spray can, a step ladder and it was murder on her back?

no stupid! Axes/Axis of Evil - hang on isn't that something someone said 10 years ago? Nice pun shame about the image and its relevance.

Life's killing me, there you go simple and now everyone will get it.

Piece of Piss to get on the news

give me a fucking break

http://www.itv.com/news/banksy-strikes-again20894/

Charlie Sheen, DFace and Cheating Fame

After trying my hardest to ignore DFace's latest US show, I came across this:

Sure enough it's an attempt at engaging some pr controversy to highlight his show - sure I get that. Does it work? This is the country that's been revelling in the disintegration of a TV star and then getting upset when his off screen persona isn't in fact his onscreen one. I think if anything it's probably too fucking subtle for the country it's intended for.

Judith Supine at New Image Art

Judith has a show coming up on the 13th of April in Hollywood and for some, some it's a chance to get  excited, the cut out and paste and colour in some Monty Pythonesque images speaks volumes to those trying to find signs of intelligence within this little scene. I just wonder if they're trying too hard? And if he's just not trying hard enough?

yes really whatever.

Keep Destructive

Dear Thierry

This is hard for me to say, but say it I shall, I fear I've misread you all these years, I saw you as the untalented, foolish, art jester, Banksy's plaything. How we all laughed as you said 'Life is Beautiful' merely thinking it was a platitude you truly believed but never truly understood. The poor simpleton.

Then somewhere along the line, people started to buy your work and treat you with respect. This caused us to laugh even more 'look the fool has his foolish followers'. I felt so sorry for all the low brow taste, the feeding frenzy, a need to collect the next picture no matter what.

But now, now, with this piece I see, I see! Your work actually means something to you and you need to explain it to us. Even though what you make is a mistake, a mistake you sell and keep selling, it can not be wrong for it is a creative process, for it is Art in all it's rawness and we must believe that.

Thankyou Thierry for explaining that, Thankyou 150 times $250 a go

Yours Nihilistically

Funky

Josh Keyes at Fecal Face Gallery

Muted cries of pleasure from underneath Dan Dare quilts the world over for the latest Josh Keyes mini show. The images that have started appearing sure are pleasurable, if you're into some more of those cubed locations, geography book images plus some magical creatures, communing with nature in the way only some heavy handed artist trying to make a point can.

One Year of Death

and what have we learnt?

Complain and a new edition is produced, for street artists are both caring and savvy enough to know they can make money from fucking up

Good artists borrow, great artists steal, street artists clone

Even the most simple minded street art fan will given time, a credit card and the ability to read, find the exit

A right to reply is a dangerous thing when you have nothing to say

The forums are fucked

Street artists can not bear to know some people do not like their work, for criticism is hard to take when you've been told for the last 3 months you're cool

A blogs title can confuse and confound

Dr Funky would like to thank Kleenex, diazepam, the Internet and angel delight.

Faile to Respect Their Authoritar

Talking of snide pricks Faile's latest release dropped yesterday. There's something ever so slightly 'Gambian Lottery Win Email' about their whole sales process.

No pictures, an inbuilt hype mechanism care of the forums and then drop a $9k piece. Just within reach of credit card limits and never within reach of being paid off. Time to go the gallery route to your rich clientele and stop playing the rest of us.

Come get your edition of 20, but each unique, oh yeahhhhhh.
