So there's a book cataloguing the phenomenon that is the 'street art print', the printing of a million and one editions of exciting images for consumption by fan boy, feeding their vain hope that one day this here art will make 'him' rich rich rich. More importantly to complete the vacuum of meaninglessness there's a print included. Not just any print but a completely fucking pointless empty dface print that encapsulates so much of this wonderful field. It's a superhero, he's painting on the wall and he's painting over the vag&arse symbol with an anarchy symbol. What is more anarchic than promoting a product with a free fucking gift? Unless that free fucking gift is in fact a fucking explosive that goes off when you open the book. This print is reason alone to ignore this book.
The prints above were available at the BRP show, yes there are AP's of the free gift! A show that I've read saw the coming together of contemporary and street art, or more likely, the coming together of the gallery's collection to make the street art buyers feel part of the scene they've really always wanted to be part of. (In actual fact their limited knowledge makes them ripe for paying ridiculous prices).
What kind of stunted puerile imagination must someone have if they find anything at all interesting in this print?? A hollow insincere use of the anarchy symbol might have appealed to 14 year old glue-sniffing kids in the punk era, but nowadays it's just fucking embarrassing. Utter rancid gash of the highest degree.

ReplyDeleteWhat's worse, "D"ick Face did this same image/theme on the side of a wall in Los Angeles way back in 2009!!! It was just as shitty cliche then as it is now. True waste of what looked to be a terrific wall.

ok, so maybe I'm being fussy there, but how in the fuck did spidey reach the top of this piece? unless he's bouncing up and down on his web he couldn't paint this
add to that the fact that he's spider man - he wouldn't hang off a web painting this, he'd just walk down the fucking wall (and walking down the wall is the only way that he could have painted such a perfect circle)

as a graffiti writer and a comic book fan, this print offends me SO MUCH I'm tempted to fire-bomb DickFaces gallery, prefereably when Misterious Als solo show is on, as he name-checks Dface in his press release. all a bunch of toy cunts
stefanie at Mangelog is excited because Bridget Riley prints are in the show. BUT THEY ARE CRAPPY. ooooh, and some hirst. but they are shit too. so why the excitement? for fuck sake pure evil is in the show too, and he has always always been considered a joke. he had to open his own gallery just so other artists would be his friend
