how is a big word going to stop kids stabbing each other? how about writing "ONLY BOYS WITH SMALL DICKS ARE TOO SCARED TO WALK THE STREETS WITHOUT A KNIFE IN THEIR POCKET" or "LEAVE THE BLADE AT HOME YOU PUSSY" that'll do it The word CHANGE won't do a damn thing, except garner more press for Eine. Kid dies, Eine sells a few more prints of bad typography. What a waste of a life...
to an extent I agree Eine's never going to set the world alight with social or political insight, mainly because I think he's too stupid.
Having said that I'd rather he'd spend his time making pieces like this and at least possibly...possibly highlighting some of the monumentally fucked up things about our London town, than releasing any more dull typograpghy I'm a legend in my nhs glasses honest guv work.
Fronting on socio political posturing to earn a buck is worse than a paint by numbers Prince Charles....which shows where his real inspira$$$ion comes from and a lot more cliched, and insulting to the families of those lost....making capital and self aggrandising thru the misery of others has been played out by Banksy, Obey, etc etc when theyre just aggressive capitalist opportunist corporations and in that effect the enemy of real art and the underground....things have been dumbed down for too long....if Eine is the new voice of the streets we're in dire straights and goes to show how far 'right place right time but no talent except recognising a bandwagon and jumping on it' gets you.
Completely agree with the above comment, excellent analysis and well put. I'm fucking sick of seeing people like Eine, Banksy, Fairey etc. continually being presented as somehow underground and cutting edge when in fact they're as dull as a Jack Vettriano print that you'd find in a charity shop. They just got in early on a trend and so have now been canonised by the mainstream to the extent that they seem to occupy the totality of most people's mental space. I suppose the fact that their version of 'rebellion' is so fluffy and middle class helps too. This leads to the exclusion of the real underground, which is out there, but largely unrecognised or ignored, probably because it's felt to be a bit too edgy and threatening for the estate agents and insurance brokers who like buying ironic and so-called humorous prints for their Shoreditch loft apartments to make themselves feel trendy. And so the cycle of greed and boredom continues. It's stupid art for braindead capitalist pricks.
The biggest irony of all in this is that street art was originally a reaction against the commercialism of the gallery system, but now people seem to judge the importance of a 'street' artist by their gallery representation or how much their stuff sells for. People need to recognise that limited edition screenprints, boxsets, vinyl toys or whatever other consumer bullshit they dream up next will NEVER be radical. If you're hyping these products then you're just adding to the problem. Fuck their tedious products. Get out there in the streets and find the authentic raw street art, not this continual stale fake version that is spread across every blog and forum.
