The Death of Street Art Forums

After a day of shitty weather all inspiration for this post seems to have left me.

News in that wallkandy, has ended, is just about to end, may never truly end has just reached funk towers. Do I care? Well wk is free to do whatever he wants, so to that end good luck to him. Conspiracy theorists say he's in laz's pocket because he takes photographs for his show. Yes he posted pics of his show but I never noticed an overtly positive position to the gallery, in fact I never saw an opinion in all my lurking. (Of course by covering lazs shows that was in itself a pro position and id agree).

Christ I'm bored now and that was the biggest problem with wk, little happening and mouthy know it alls, a heady concoction for popular debate.

Anyway it's time has passed full stop. Looking to the other places, the clock is ticking too. One is a glorified Market stall with continual agitation to get contributions. I can't believe anyone actually replies to the bs that's posted. I took great pleasure in deleting the comments of one particular cunt here from that place. And the other seems to have been infected by a need to be worthy, truly pointless bull shit that's choking it dry.

I think I'll just sit here venting bile amen over and out.

Ikea Punk on EBay

So with deep joy I'm reporting two fcuking chancers took Banksy's 'ikea punk' piece, paid a shit load to have it 'restored' ie destreeted. And now are selling it on eBay, possibly realising it'll never get authenticated and will only be bought by some wanker with more money than sense, good luck to all involved (both sellers and buyers) may your lives be as short, as your greed is large.

Robbo at Pure Evil Gallery

This coming Thursday the preview for this show, yes you read that right

Robbo the banksy 'hater'

Has a show at Pure Evils, friend of Banksy

And suddenly particularly the recent work down on regents canal, seems like what?

It makes you wonder how much of this feud was real?

Banksy in Spain

So the Basque country has seen a sub par banksy esque piece appear, that on first viewing I actually thought was a copycat stencil artist.

Then I learned film premiere for Exit in the area..... Un-fucking-believable. Blood stone from. Stop now please it's enough.

I won't be posting a picture.

Another New Eine in London

Anti anti anti - a comeback of sorts on the Cameron debacle? Keep it up Ben anger is a weapon, possibly time to use it on Robbie's mum?

Errr scratch that, it's for the anti design festival, so just another paid for gig - yawnnnnnn

A Couple of 'Art' related New Stories For Ya

Mike Ballards exhibits 200 Stolen Coats - pop along get your coat back and punch the twat in the face, it maybe art (with a non silent f at the front) but it's still fucking stupid, more here

Stephen Bywater makes an Exhibit of himself - the average footballer has put up some or in fact may have just some stolen from his local tip Art in his garden, much to the non-delight of neighbours. Respect for proving once and for all that not only are footballers brain dead, but their taste resides solely in their cock sniffing out Essex slappers. More here

Eine on Old Street

To highlight the events surrounding Tom Easton's stabbing and subsequent report into the killer.

Sickboy and Shep Release Print / Boxsets

There must be something in the water, usually it's just prints where they're trying to convince us it's a must! Now it's books, but no not just ordinary books -  limited edition, signed run, screen printed box, special prints and a partridge in a pear treeeeee.

Me? If I want a book i'll just buy that thankyou very much.

Sickboy - Busted Parachute Box Set

Shep of course has take it that oneeee little bit further, and when I say one bit, I mean one long reallllllllllllllly boring journey in the back of the car, arrive at the coast, take all your clothes off and never come back 'bit'

edition of 5000 with 3 prints, you know where it is, if you can be bothered

Dont Panic - StolenSpace - 23/09 - Venting Part II!

It must be the time of the month

Is this show just the stupidest idea you've ever heard of?

10 prints, 8 of which no one has any interest in.

No 'official' pictures of the prints

Blind tubed so you have a 1 in 10 chance of getting the one you want, or being saddled with a print you don't want, can't sell, don't even know who it's by. (That's not taking into account those that will have been held back for friends etc)

And on top of all of this there'll be people going purely for the 'flat' Banksy print

There's mystical planning central to trying to get money out of people for something they don't want, and yet it seems to me this could have all been done so much better for everyone's benefit.

Quality night out!

Faile - Venting!

right i'll get this out and then leave it alone

Faile

I'd go with the maxim that prices by artists should generally for prints (especially) be set slightly below the market, that way you generate interest and good publicity. ie. Chee those Faile guys they're great they're thinking about their fan base and keeping it as affordable as they can. Interestingly they always did this prior to hitting it rich. Then something seemed to happen, being purely cynical I'd say - let's fleece them for everything they've got - attitude tookover, but hey what the fuck do I know?

Secondly, how many pieces from a show they did 2 - YES 2 years ago do they have to release? The release yesterday marked the last one, and all I can say is thank fucking god! Again this feels like dragging a great idea out until it becomes a boring, wince inducing piece of work.

But hey lets remember these guys are fighting the gallery system (?) apart from the fact they're represented by galleries and release work via them, as well as, via they're own website. All this tells me is,they're making money from all avenues they can, hardly maverick behaviour to me.

But hey what do I know, no one talks to me

Tox

Tox is a tagger

it's not a pretty picture for your kid's room

no Paul from Accounts won't fucking appreciate it when he comes round for the match

No it won't go with your curtains

His work is his name, over and over and over and fucking over again, it's when you get on the train, it's when you walk down that alley, it's when you look up at that derelict building, that's what he does, don't fucking try and put it into a neat little 'art I like' appreciation box - you don't understand because you don't understand - now get back to your slippers and your hot chocolate it's bedtime

More Disturbing Banksy Camp Behaviour

Just been reading how one of the 'cheering' section for all things Banksy has been contacted by Pest Control to remove a picture he had on Flickr of 'No Future' (that he didn't own the copyright for and they did).

What does this achieve?

One pissed off 'fan'

And the rest of us questioning what the point of that was? Especially as they've just put the pic up on Banksy.co.uk

Someone needs to have a quiet word with these jumped up wannabe's, it was never about copyright infringement for fucks sake.

'copyright is for losers'

cough cough who fucking said that?

Selfishges&Co - Agent Provocateur

Talking of shit jokes (see Nick Walker), here's something that's been causing me to continually wince, lacks the bite of Modern Toss and so far comes across as about as funny as Keith Chegwin after a bottle of vodka on Saturday Superstore (okay nowhere near THAT funny). I'm guessing Agent is what 15? (or a fucking sad 30+ year old), get a proper job comes to mind or is that not harsh enough?

just been passed the preview for this and you know what? It's not original. It's not amazing. But it is funny, well done Matt you're carving out a little niche for yourself.

Personal favourite? The King.

Rene Gagnon - 911 Print

Well after me shouting for Rene to grow a funny bone, he goes the other way.

Thoughts? Challenging. Uncomfortable. Strong.

Rene you've said something, people may hate it but they'll have an opinion - well done.

Fuck this does look alot like a Nick Walker - even an idea I thought was half decent is half inched, oh well best not be too grumpy with Banksy and MBW eh old boy?

Wild Fantasies at Stolen Space 24/9 - 3/10

20 flat banksy prints on the door! And prints for fifty quid in a 'blind' sale - sounds alot like a plan to stay well away from the preview night.

New Petro Prints at Pictures on Walls

well it's graf of sorts, but this production line process of everything in a millions colours is smacking of opportunism

Blu in Vienna and Comparing to Banksy

Blu has created this thought provoking piece for BLK Festival

from Vandalog who in turn got from here scarygami also more info on the festival here

So Blu an Italian who seemingly sells very little but still manages to cross the globe producing thought provoking pieces of which this is another. Here the the discussion of freedom of speech is broached in a wonderful manner. Here is shown exactly what Banksy discussed all those years ago, pieces that are easily understood, raise a smile, maybe raise awareness, you don't need to be part of a club to understand, they're not in a gallery and they're better than an advertisement, they're NOT SELLING you anything.

But of course we know Blu needs to be getting his money from somewhere, he's funded yes, but does it ruin anything? No and you know why? He's not shouting it from the roof tops, he's not producing piece after piece and passing the details round of what can be bought, he's doing what he loves and making the money he needs. And most amusingly he wasn't even at Cans a couple of years back.

So well done Blu, if the world needs (not that it does) another Street Artist to follow let it be you.

Final Thoughts on the Banksy HMV Debacle

So Banksy created original pieces for a HMV display to sell his DVD. I just had to say it again, it sounds so fucking ridiculous.

Let's not forget this was the artist who defaced 500 (?) copies of Paris Hilton's CD and placed them in HMVs to make a point about the vacuous nature of consumption and celebrity our wonderful world embraces and loves. This was the man who stated it was time to reclaim the streets from the advertisments forced upon us.

And now, here is stamping on all of that, as if it meant nothing?

What do we know? Well we know he is not anti-consumption he's been selling everything and commissioning etc for years and years. Fine.

But there is a new book around the corner.

Perhaps just perhaps this final act is the coup de grace to the personna of Banksy?

Banksy under fire for promotion stunt at HMV

Banksy Nicked!

and before

And the shocking part about this? Not the theft that's expected, but the fact this is on Banksy.co.uk ie. provenance for the thieving so and so. All I hope is the thieving c u next tuesday is Banksy.

The World of Banksy Forums - Inhabitants - Part 8

No Dr Funky will never stop with this series, never!

Pt. 8 'Head in the Dirt Boys' - if there's one thing that infuriates me, I mean really tears my guts up more than a Vindaloo after 5 pints of Guiness, it's people who refute the world they live in. By this I mean, covering their ears and screaming at the top of their lungs 'LA DE DAAAA EVERYONE IS NICE, THERE IS NO EVIL IN THIS WORLD, NO ONE EVER TRIES TO CON ANYONE, HOW DO YOU PRESUME TO THINK THAT SOMEONE MAY NOT BE ON THE LEVEL, YOU SIR ARE A CUR AND TO BE PELTED WITH ROTTEN EGGS!'  (you see they use words like 'cur' because to point of fact they're total tossers).

So someone buys something, they don't tell anyone they bought it, they go onto a forum and ask if anyone's selling and then offer something ridiculous in return, ooh I don't know a gold bar, they then say they've now done a deal and will receive said print, now to the unassuming on the forum, said print is now worth the gold bar - but has anything really happened? Keep your hands on your ears and always assume the best kids, what's the worst that can happen?
