Street art isn't dead, far from it. At least the underground non-commercial stuff isn't. You won't see it on the forums and only rarely even on flickr, but it's quite healthy. The gallery based 'urban art' scene is very close to death though, and thank fuck for that. It's mostly populated by a sad incestuous clique of fanboy twats who go to all the gallery openings on a Thursday night to parasite off the free booze and generally try to pretend they're somehow important within the 'scene'.
Fuck print releases, blogs, forums, twitter and all the hangers on and hype merchants. It's all so bloated, tedious and dull and nobody even cares anymore except a bunch of desperate nerdy trainspotters who can't bear to leave the party even when it's so obviously all become a bit shit and is nearly over.
What I don't understand though is that the person who writes this blog seems to realise most of this, but yet still chooses to promote all of this gallery/print bullshit while at the same time almost despising it.
Is it that you feel that your self identity has become so entwined with the scene that you feel unable to escape it, even though it now fills you with cynicism and disillusionment? (Serious question by the way, not meaning to be sarcastic).
If I were you mate, I'd look around for something a bit more interesting to get into, because you seem to have lost any enthusiasm you once had for it, and besides...like I was saying, it's all a load of wank anyway. It's not even worth trying to keep alive on life-support to be honest. Just let it quietly wither away and with any luck it'll virtually disappear in the near future.
