Charlie Isoe - Silver Spoons and Hotel Rooms - Lazarides London

Christopher Charlie Isoe 'Silver Spoons and Hotel Rooms' at Lazarides London -  a show I've been looking forward to for a long time, this Aussie born artist shows real promise of becoming the real thing, not just another 'dangerous / dull sensationalist', if anything his progression reminds me in growth of David Choe from a couple of years or so ago.

So his first solo show in London a success? Charlie's work would never guarantee such a thing, the erratic nature of his work leaves plenty of room for misfiring, but never are you left let down (apart from 'You'), maybe misunderstood, dirty and ugly but there is always something to puzzle over.

The standout pieces? Well the portraits are surprisingly living room friendly, the mixture of line and realism as the picture breaksdown works really well (particularly 'since she left home'). 'You' though is awful, childish stuff, I'd expect this from Angel41 perhaps but not Isoe. Is it expensive? Yes, maybe too much so, so early on 3-12k, for an artist still starting out. But this feels like the beginning of something special - please some more fucking maverick mental headcases to keep me happy.

  1. FUCKING LISTER RIP OFF

    TWO YEARS AGO LISTER WAS THE NAME MOST LONDON COLLECTORS WANTED. LAZ APPRAOCHED LISTER (TO SILENCE ALL THE PEOPLE ASKING HIM FOR PIECES), LAZ GOT REBUFFED (ELMS LESTER REPPIN'LISTER)...SO HE WENT TO BERLIN AND GOT LISTERS WANNABE - ISOE.

    SO THE TRUTH GOES....

    ISOE = POOR MANS LISTER.

    DONE

  2. Lister is tha dude! Would kill Isoe's work in a minute! Funny thing is, that Laz is selling Isoes work for three times more than a Lister. Gullible collectors getting shite for their dollars.
