all gearing up to see something a little different from Goldie and this is what we get, different, about as different as one politician to another

here's Zac Walsh's flyer image

standout piece for me is by Matt Small,

can't say this is the greatest show ever (okay it's like a load of other average group shows by middle rung street art talent)

Faile , Mode2 and Stanley Donwood at Lazarides Shop

Another nice Mode2

A couple of Donwoods

rather like Radiohead a bit dull and depressing

And last but not least a Faile Bunny Boy they've had in the stock room for a couple of years and seems to have mysteriously appreciated in value

I continue to be a huge fan of the new site and the wonderful way customers can place items in their basket for a millenium prior to buying, a great system I never tire of seeing the immortal words -

'This item is currently reserved in other customers' baskets, but may become available soon.'

congratulations on creating such a robust and wonderfully crafted sales experience

Slinkachu Show opening Saturday 1st May at Belsay Hall

Slinkachu amiable 'nice' work originally nicely priced, open to all and seemingly in line with the type of work it was, now sold via Andipa with nothing below £1000, it makes you look at the work alot closer and think ' what the fuck is going on?'

little interview with the guy behind BRP here , of course their crazy prices couldn't be mentioned, but try to read between the lines if you can

Old Vic Buys the Lease to the Tunnel 228 Labyrinth!

The Art Newspaper reports that Kevin Spacey's Old Vic has acquired the lease to the Tunnels under Waterloo, so there'll be more Art shows (hopefully) like the stunning Tunnel 228 event of the Summer of '09 can't wait

Jef Aerosol solo show 'Girls, Girls, Girls' at Signal Gallery

Prefab77 @ Lazarides Newcastle

can't say as yet that Prefab77 have blown me away, but this is step up from Angel41 at least

'Dots' Burning Candy Film

I see Vandalog has details of this film about the Burning Candy Crew called 'Dots' and a boxset of prints to help fund the project. Good luck to them with the venture, the prints are well, nothing special, perhaps more indicative of what happens when a graf crew who's work 'works' on a large scale tries to put it on an A5 piece of paper, it just doesn't 'work', (cyclops being the exception) here are the prints, edition of 150 coming in at 500 pounds!!!

More entertainingly is the author tying himself in knots over ensuring we know he has financial ties to the project and therefore is not objective 'And for those curious about my personal involvement in the film and print release, I’m helping out friends and artists that I believe in, but I’m also getting paid for my work' .  This statement in response to Wooster Collective helping the promotion of the Banksy film in the States and feeling betrayed by their lack of clarity their response to critism here. What a fucking ridiculous group of events, for a start anyone who reads said blog knows the author is friends with various artists etc so will never be straight down the line with them, so to get all prissy about Wooster helping one of their friends is just a fucking joke in itself. As soon as you start writing about something you love you will inevitably develop affection for certain people and your writing will be effected, get over yourself.

Also if you love them so much why do you need money to help them?

I'd like to say Dr Funky fucking hates everybody, but loves himself regularly up to five times a day.

The World of Banksy Forums - Inhabitants

5. Yes / No Men - life is simple I hate Dface, I Love Banksy, everything Dface does is bad, everything Banksy does is good, simple? To some it would seem.

Thoughts on the Banksy Ad 'Campaign' for his Film

okay so you open 'Wall and Piece'and see

'the people who truly dface our neighbourhoods are the companies that scrawl giant slogans across the buildings and buses trying to make us feel inadequate unless we buy something'

'it takes a lot of guts to stand up anonymously in a western democracy and call for things no-one believes in - like peace justice and freedom'

so I bought into 'Banksy' the freedom writer (who said wit was dead? well if that didn't kill it, all the ridulous Banksy interviews recently certainly put it on life support) , trying to make the world a slightly better place, not the rich art elite, striking a blow for the man on the street who's sick of being sold things, who's sick of being told why art can only be appreciated if you've got the right education, and anyway, fuck that art is ugly and bears no relation to the life I lead - so why the fuck would I like it anyway?

so yeah I read this into it, was it right? I needed a message in this media, consumption based, cynical, information overloaded age and he gave it to me - this, well, it makes me feel dirty.

Are you now selling me something other than 'Banksy' ? I inextricably link all these new pieces, to buying a ticket and seeing a film, to Americans going  'oh right, I should see the film' .

I don't for a second think its that cynical, he's out there, the films on and look at all these wonderful cities with histories he can critique, I understand that, I do, but still in the pit of my stomach I feel slightly sick, just like when I turn over when the ads come on.

New Banksy No.6 in SF 'Bird Song'

Insight into the Banksy Guard and Koons Dog Piece and Removal

Fascinating and the truth behind the stunt

'In 1987 Giancarlo Politi did an interview with Koons. Earlier in this thread, someone referenced the single line, but if you read the entire quote, it provides the context and helps the viewer understand what may have inspired Banksy:

"(The Public is) being deceived on different levels of thought, because they’re educated in abstraction and luxury on different income levels. The upper class would love to pull an individual with ambition and gumption from a lower class to the verge of the upper class, because that’s where the big takings of power are. If they can have you move through social mobility up to the edge of the upper class, they can go in and in one killing get 250 chips; but you’ll never break through, because luxury and abstraction are the guard dogs of the upper class, and the pursuit of luxury is degradation." -Jeff Koons, Flash Art Magazine, 1987
So, that is essentially the story of Banksy's career, and with that in mind, I personally believe this is what may have happened:
Since one can assume Thierry isn't helping Banksy get walls in LA anymore (he's keeping them for himself?), he had to turn to another source.

This source, naturally, as part of the art-world, mentioned that Ace Gallery owner Doug Chrismas owns property. In consideration that he was a notoriously shady dealer who stands for everything that Banksy HATES in the art world, he figured that Chrismas and Ace Gallery would be the perfect target...

Like dangling a carrot in front of the Donkey, Banksy made his installation on Doug's property; knowing full well that he wouldn't be able to resist the urge to gain something from it. Chrismas took the bait, removed the piece. Banksy then distances himself from the work, making the dealer of ill-repute look like an even bigger fool when he has to put it on Ebay to get rid of it.
It's just another art world power-play. Banksy is slowly teaching some very important lessons to the high-art world right now. We all know that with the internet, The old rules no longer apply, and I believe that's why he muzzled the Koons dog.
It's all very logical, and yes, I believe that truth is often stranger than fiction.'

Dolk / M-City Update

*just been forwarded a copy of the preview* first impressions? Damning disappointment unfortunately, M City has produced in the region of 14 pieces, reasonably priced in comparison to the supposed star of the show Dolk. Who has for his part created 6, yes 6 measly pieces! Not only is the number disappointing, but the pricing of all these editions of 3 is ridiculously high once exchange rates are considered, we are talking 5 times that of M City orginals (ie. editions of 1!). And, last but not least the images, well I'd say on the one positive is 'Old School' is the low water mark but there's nothing here that will make a non Dolk fan change his mind or even a Dolk fan think he's the skillz to give Banksy a run for his money.

4 out of 10 - depressing

first a new print, for a film, not bad, very Obey here

and here's an old Obey worker figure on Iconoclast , okay so unless you're under 10 I'm not really sure of the point of this, but then I think the Kaws figurines (apologies if that's the wrong terminology but i couldn't give a fuck) are complete bollocks.
